19^th – 31^st Jan.’15: Pradarshak presents “Expressions” acrylic on canvas paintings by Sheetal Kamble.

Absolutely rejoicing in being a woman, the artist chooses to exude the varying moods, strengths, thoughts of a woman in her series titled “expressions”; and she does this through a enticing figure, full of life and vigour, complete with various ornaments, in different postures... speaking volumes through a silent, ubiquitous body language.

Transparent washes mingle with opaque patches as Sheetal’s muse takes on the canvas with her quiet communication with the viewers. Deft and most comfortable with acrylic colours, the artist flirts with the medium using varying application techniques to derive the desired effect. She uses permanent markers and golden hues to accentuate her characters and their highlight details.

The artist also borrows heavily from Indian culture, and we observe symbolism – lotus for purity of body, speech and mind; bird as freedom and joy; also as friend and companion; and tribal influences in the silhouettes and colour palette. 

The compositional strength of the canvas lies as much in the character sketch of the subject as it does in its narrative, engaging the viewer in a private tête-à-tête.
