Mumbai-based artist, Gauri Seth showcases charcoal, acrylic & mix medium on paper, canvas and wood paintings and hand-painted objects in this, her 10th solo exhibition.
Here is a true-blue artist, for whom painting is as much a
catharsis as it is a celebration of life! Gauri Seth has an uncanny ability of
looking inward, without actually underlining the emotion overtly. Everything
for the artist is bright, cheerful, colourful... and in the muse that emerges -
time and again - one finds the culmination of the artist’s personal fulfilment.
The artist silently attributes this inspirational urge that
makes her paint a woman each time, to the guidance and strong bond she shared with
her mother. She dedicates this show to her. “My mother had a very calming
effect on me; and the women that I paint are in a state of bliss; at peace with
themselves and with the world,” she says. “They are strong inside; elude
softness; are patient, and with this quality comes fortitude...”
“I love to work with yellow,
orange, sienna, midnight blue, white, aqua, turquoise...black and white
anytime...; I love gold for its positivity and sheer beauty! However, a colour
that I just don’t like is purple! No idea why!” she concludes.
Putting her random thoughts together, Gauri showcases this, her exhibition focussing on the aspect of daydreaming. “It takes you to unknown
lands and spaces, where you are your own master! Utopia!!” she smiles
broadly, with her eyes twinkling.
The exhibition showcases sheer joy and celebration of woman hood and
features paintings in small sizes that make for excellent pairs; as well as
painted objects that together exude a serenity and joie de vivre.
An absolute must-see!!
Stunning! I love the use of color. My hands down favorite is the bar stool. Excellent work, Gauri!
ReplyDeleteGauri you bring your art to life through the use of exquisite colors and deep expressions... Fantastic job! - Tarun
ReplyDeleteHow appropriate that Gauri's work should go on display in the week of Holi. The artist clearly revels in the colours of life, and breathes deeply of its polychromatic splendour. Wilfred Peterson once wrote: “Walk with the dreamers, the believers, the courageous, the cheerful, the planners, the doers, the successful people with their heads in the clouds and their feet on the ground. Let their spirit ignite a fire within you to leave this world better than you found it.”
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I walked with the artist's Day Dreamers this afternoon.
The women in Gauri's work are calm, stoic, dignified and contemplative. What larval ideas will emerge from the chrysalis of their reverie to become acts of elegance, heroism and needed change? Imagination is inevitably the curtain-raiser on the opening act of dream fulfilment. Many will leave this show, silently cheering for Gauri, her day dreams, and her day dreamers as they take centre stage......
