– 16th May.’15: Pradarshak presents Solo
Exhibition of Contemporary stylized-Warli Paintings by Dipti Nikam
Inspiration comes from
all quarters as does the zeal to work! Artist Dipti Nikam too has been
fascinated with the lives and lifestyles of the Warli tribe of Maharashtra ever
since her academic years. She continues to find them regaling her with their
real-life stories, while she keeps pace with reinventing her foray into this
particular tribal form in a whimsical, sometimes purely aesthetic; at others,
totally poignant format.
There is a passion in her
eyes as Dipti narrates anecdotes from her regular periodic visits at the tribal
village. Their nomadic lifestyles, their simple living, warmth,
celebration-of-life outlook... find room in her canvas paintings in themes and
backdrops that emerge from a fertile imagination that culls the real and
dabbles in the make-believe, bringing them to the viewer in a mix of colour,
texture and detail that is Dipti’s signature.
While the paintings take
one away from the authentic Warli art of the tribe, which is categorically done
in an umber backdrop with white figures; Dipti’s stylised Warli on the other
hand is colourful, plays with texture, sometimes three-dimensional faces and
figures and always underlined by joie-de-vivre!
An interesting
exhibition, very affordably priced that can add a pseudo-conventional touch to
your decor. Come take a look and feel the joy!
