A quest for the unknown can be a strange and potent driver; as is the case of this young self-taught artist Arti Jatar, who began dabbling with art way back in 2010-2011. She discovered a penchant for monoprints and has honed her skill set through several group and participatory exhibitions to present her debut solo exhibition – largely based on her first love – nature.

The monoprint technique is very fascinating as the process involves taking a single original print using glass as a medium. The beauty of this medium is that it is a combination of printmaking, painting and drawing and I enjoy it as it offers considerable freedom and possibilities to work, in terms of any tool that one can use, which does not restrict me only to a paintbrush,” explains Arti.

With nature as her mentor, and a sensitive disposition, Arti is naturally inclined to cherish fleeting moments of beauty and see the beautiful in the mundane; transferring it to her monoprints.

Diligently and delicately rendered, using additive and subtractive elements, each of her monoprints stands out as a sensitive fusion of texture and pattern. Largely monochromatic, the artist is beginning to get confident with her colour applications.

This is one artist to watch out for!
