4th Dec - 15th Dec 2017: Pradarshak presents 12” x 12” Solo Exhibition of Abstract Paintings by Umesh Patil
There is a rhythm in every story that exists; and abstractionist Umesh Patil’s paintings seem to have an intriguing, sometimes complex narrative that waits to be decoded! Using the law of spontaneity, the artist unleashes a deluge of happenings on his canvases. “The existence and movements of the universe go from abstractness to embodiment, and this natural, spontaneous movement constitutes the process - which is the core of my paintings,” says Umesh.
The line does not remain a line. The form does not remain a form; it transforms exploring multiple possibilities… Forms flow into each other… merge… cavort playfully… some delicate, furtive; others dominant, intrepid. The texture transmutes… as colours change… and the rhythm begins to reveal itself. The painting comes alive!

With a diploma in Fine Art from the L. S. Raheja School of Art, Umesh has gradually grown from his textural and colour-juxtaposed compositions to a maturity in technique, approach and rendering.
In this, his third solo outing, Umesh focuses on creating a complete picture within a limited space – hence his format of 12inch x 12inch. “I am trying to accommodate the perception of all beautiful things in the focal space of 12” x 12” – a restricted area for the viewer, whose perception changes in the fraction of a second. The 12” x 12” painting size is always challenging; but it is still closest. The series is an attempt to visualize the appearance of the sky in the smallest dimensions of an image, experienced with limited imagery,” he explains.

Umesh’s palette, which generally tends to veer towards the vibrant – mainly reds, oranges and yellows, flirts with some chic colours like teal, salmon pink, lilac, olive green… creating some striking compositions. A highlight is a composition of three abstracts, where matt blacks and greys are engaged in a serious narrative… resulting in a soothing, serene painting.
An exhibition that is an unmissable experience in abstraction.
