April 2018: Pradarshak
presents ‘Sound around…’ Mix medium
paintings by Jaiprakash Chouhan
Artist
Jaiprakash Chouhan uses his paintings - fluid as sound - to inhabit the
subliminal level of consciousness - taking one away from the 'noise' around to
a journey of the 'peaceful' in an archaic attempt at self-discovery; one of the
many interpretations that one can garner from his sensitive art...
Abstract
art is a strong conveyor. Nuanced and layered with life’s introspections and philosophies,
it manifests the most potent thoughts of the artist as he uses it to express
his bouquet of emotions – peaks of ecstasy, rants, grouses… an equal measure of
the pluses and the minuses of life.
Jaiprakash
here uses his play of colours, juxtaposing space and form, to convey a deep thought
– that of communication. With communication as the basic need and foundation of
mankind, the artist speaks of ‘sounds of silence’ as well as ‘sounds around’. Juxtaposing
these two modes of communication, he highlights the raw appeal and latent
energy in both. Their contribution to our every action is a premise that he
bases his art upon.
Using
the pen and ink, and watercolour medium on paper, Jaiprakash superimposes his
unhindered flow of hues with numbers and miniscule chips of paper, composing each
painting into a distinct narrative. He draws a comparison with nature, where his
art just like nature’s panorama, communicates on a base level, often, not
needing any words. Silent yet meaningful.
