6th Jan. – 17th Jan. 2020: Pradarshak presents “Khurdura - the textures of a woman” mixed medium paintings by Kirthi Shetty
Drawing strength and inspiration from her immediate surroundings and everyday happenings, young artist Kirthi Shetty has a penchant for introspecting. Spirituality and women play a pivotal role in Kirthi’s paintings. Thus, was born the series ‘Khurdura’ that led her to explore the myriad facets of a woman; zeroing upon just one of them – the veiled quality of a woman, when she chooses not to voice her opinion or her concerns, her angst or even her triumphs… Celebrating this quality, Kirthi paints a series that empathises with a woman via her “unposted letters to the universe”.

Revisiting the now-almost-forgotten postcard, most of the works are in mixed medium, weaving spiritual texts, poetry, adages written in calligraphy as a method of enhancing the texture; focussing subtly and metaphorically on the images. Textural nuances include the use of typography, calligraphy, maps, decoupage, etc.
Using a monochromatic palette of sepia hues, the artist strives to reproduce the people and places that have inspired her, on the canvas. Each painting in the collection is a culmination of the thousand different decisions, thoughts and feelings infused with spirituality that has produced timeless work possessing both simple elegance and haunting solitude.
